Libraries promote National Gaming Day with fun and games @ your library (November 4, 2011)

"Tens of thousands of people will be gaming together at their local libraries on Saturday, Nov. 13, to celebrate the American Library Associationâ€™s third annual National Gaming Day @ yourÂ library.
The latest map of 1,800+ participating locations includes libraries from every state in the U.S., as well as in Argentina, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Pakistan and Puerto Rico. Organizers expect to easily break last yearâ€™s record of more than 31,000 people playing games on the same day.
Libraries will offer a variety of activities throughout the day, including modern board games, traditional games (such as chess and checkers) and two national video game tournaments that will pit players at dozens of libraries against each other for bragging rights to the ultimate Rock Band and Super Smash Bros. Hasbro Exclusive Sponsor for 2009 NGD @ your library - October 12, 2009
CHICAGO â€” The largest producer of board games in the world, Hasbro, will be the exclusive sponsor for the American Library Associationâ€™s (ALA) 2009 National Gaming Day @ your library to be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009.
Through a generous donation from Hasbro, more than 16,700 public libraries in the U.S. will receive a box set of their highly popular card games, Monopoly Deal, Scrabble Slam, and Pictureka! Read more
ALA Releases Gaming Toolkit - March 2, 2009
CHICAGO â€“ Libraries are changing and dynamic places, and no better evidence of that exists than the spread of gaming in the nation's public, school and academic libraries.
In recognition of this trend and the increasing value of gaming to literacy improvement, the American Library Association, with assistance from a $1 million grant from the Verizon Foundation, has developed an online toolkit to aid librarians in serving this growing constituency.
The Librarianâ€™s Guide to Gaming: An Online Toolkit for Building Gaming @ your library offers content contributed by expert gaming librarians across the country. The toolkit includes a wide range of resources to help librarians create, fund and evaluate gaming experiences in the library. Read more
